CASE
STUDY: SCHOOL DISTRICT
One of the top 10 largest school districts in the country was seeking
a way to better manage its roof inventory and effectively plan, direct,
and oversee its functions pertaining to the repair, replacement, and
maintenance of its roofs. After issuing a request for proposal to various
Roof Asset Management companies in order to find a qualified provider
to thoroughly analyze and evaluate its roofing assets, BTA was selected
as the most qualified provider to perform the roof assessment services
and achieve the stated goals of the project. A significant differentiator
of the BTA approach is its OASYS™ system, a proprietary software program
that harnesses BTA’s experience of managing over 1 billion square feet
of roofing. OASYS™ allows BTA to deliver an unparalleled level of roof
asset management from a financial perspective.
BTA performed roof assessments on over 200 schools comprising over 21
million square feet of roofing. This data was analyzed by the OASYS™
system to identify the best opportunities to cost effectively extend
the life of the school district’s roofing inventory. The results of this
analysis presented them with an opportunity to invest $1.5 million in
strategic repairs to its roof inventory and achieve an increase in the
average life span equivalent to over $8.7 million dollars in value. The
graphic below illustrates how, by making this investment in strategic
repairs, the school district will have fewer roofs that will need to
be replaced in the next three years—lowering their capital requirements
during this time period by $3.9 million.
